Leyburn is known for its picturesque market town charm, stunning countryside views, and its location as the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Historically in the North Riding of Yorkshire, the name was derived from ‘Ley’ or ‘Le’, and ‘burn’, meaning clearing by the stream. With a bustling weekly market and auction mart, Leyburn is blessed with abundant independent retailers, restaurants and bars.

Visiting by car: SAT NAV. DL8 5BJ. Traveling west along the A684 from Bedale, leaving the A1 at Leeming Bar Services ( J51) and following the signs for Leyburn.

The A6108 from Masham offers an alternative route via Middleham. The M6 joins the A684 at Sedbergh travelling east through Hawes and Aysgarth. From Skipton the B6265 towards Grassington and then B6160 to Kettlewell through Wharfedale.

Bus services link Leyburn and Middleham with Hawes to the west, Bedale and Northallerton to the east, Leeds and Ripon to the south, and Darlington and Richmond to the north.

Northallerton station (40 mins) on the East Coast Mainline is well served with direct trains from many main line destinations including Newcastle, Durham, Darlington, Middlesbrough, Thirsk, York, Leeds, Manchester and London. All trains stop at Darlington station (40mins), not all trains stop at Northallerton. The final part of your journey is by road, bus services are available.

By air: Approximately an hour’s drive of three international airports,
Durham Tees Valley (50mins) Newcastle (1.15hr) and Leeds Bradford (1.15hr). Taxi and private hire services offer local and airport services.
